Today we remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. We also honor the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and ordinary citizens who ran into danger to save others, and the thousands more who spent months at Ground Zero in the recovery and rebuilding effort that followed. Many of them are still battling, or have since died from illnesses tied to their service there. Twenty-five years on, their courage and the sacrifice that continued long after the cameras left remain part of what we remember.

We remain eternally grateful and humbled by their sacrifice.
